How To Study – Five Steps For Success In College

As a college student, it is important to know how to study. Studying is your job. Think about it. When you fill out an application, you put student as your occupation. What do students do? They study. All of us aim for success. Here are five steps so that you will be successful with your studies.

The first step to success is to go to class. Just because it is a beautiful day outside does not give you a pass to skip class. There is nothing more important to do then going to class. If you want to make an impact, sit in the front row near your professor. Doing so allows you to not have to be concerned about not being able to hear them or see what they are writing on the board.

The second step to success is to listen. Yes you need to show up to class but you also need to be attentive of what is going on. Going to class just to zone out does not benefit anyone. While in class make eye contact with your professor. Ask questions if you do not understand what they are talking about. Doing both makes you noticeable to your professor, which is helpful.

Step three is to take notes. There are many ways to take notes. One way to do so is to divide your notebook paper into two columns. On the left hand side write down important concepts. On the right hand side write down examples and details of the concept. Having your own version of shorthand is important so that you can keep up with your professor. One day to do so is to use abbreviations and symbols.

Finding a place to study is the fourth step in being successful in college. Having good lighting and a quiet environment helps make a good place to study. Make sure you have all the supplies you need so that you do not have to interrupt your studying to find what you need.

Lastly, flashcards are a tried and true method as far as studying. They can be used to review key terms and any other terms that one does not understand. The advantage of using flashcards is that you can take them anywhere and a few minutes of idle time can be study time.

With these fives steps you will be a successful student in college. Applying these steps will also help you succeed after college as well.

How to Study in College

tudying in College is a lot harder than studying in high school, mainly because you have a lot more to study and you have a lot more to distract you. I know I had a hard time trying to figure out how to study in college. So, I have gone out and asked professionals, read research journals and found out what it really takes. Here are some tips that you can use to study well in College.

1. Get Good grades by being a leader and learning to say NO!

A lot of college students find it very hard to juggle friends and college, you need to take leadership and learn to say no if your friends are dragging you into something that is potentially going to harm your college grades. Be a leader, say no, your friends will probably be angry for five minutes and then they will understand. If they don’t you probably need good friends. You are paying a lot of money in College so make the best out of it. I’m all for enjoying life with your friends but you need to know when to do it.

2. Focus properly

If you focus on what you do, it will take you a lot less time and it will also make sure that you do it a lot better. The main thing that is robbing College students of good grades is lack of focus, if you are on facebook, if you are on MSN and are trying to do your homework at the same time that is not good focus at all. You will take longer and your grades will not be that good when you hand the homework in. So make sure you focus, take chunks of time and focus on really doing academic work in chunks of time throughout the day.

3. Learn to take good notes

As long as you don’t take good notes, studying will not really help you because you are going to study from your notes. So taking good notes is very crucial to College success. When you take good notes you can go over and look at them and understand what you did not understand in class. If your notes are bad you are going to look at them and get more confused.
